Jumble Sale Booty!

I haven't got a problem with modern clothes, I buy what I like but it just happens to be that 99.9% of the time it's pre-1974. The contemporary stuff I find second-hand usually bores the pants off me.

I couldn't resist snapping up this leather jacket from the jumble sale though, even if I only wear it a handful of times I'm sure to recoup my costs when I sell it on.

I've been feeling the cold more than usual lately and this cashmere and silk fine-knit sweater by L.K. Bennett  was a steal, it's warm without looking lumpy and frumpy and even has built in beer mittens, ideal for clutching a pint at the night market later. I can't believe how much this would have cost new. Who pays over £150 for a top and gives it away? (And would they like to adopt me?)

So, in addition to my jacket and top what else did I buy?

1950s Eastex coat, 1950s handmade cardi, 1960s Modette ski pants made in The British Colony of Hong Kong by Prova, a satin smoking jacket (in urgent need of ironing!) and a 1950s bouclé wool suit by "Riddella, Tailor Made"

Vintage shoes galore, vintage powder compact and crochet pouch, British-made shoes in boxes, bags and purses, vintage nylons and insane 1960s hats

Some fab bits for male visitors to my vintage stall - Retro Phoenix Police glasses, satin scarf, pure silk foulard and a jabot, Velvet jacket, 1930s unworn shirt complete with replacement collars, a selection of 1960s English-made ties and some cool hats.

1960s London breakfast tray, set of Mid-century modern party dishes, two suitcases, Ronnie Barker's book of Bathing Belles (did you see Jen's post HERE yesterday?), pair of 1970s tin coasters, pair of two boxed folding picnic tables.

I spotted this quilted waxed jacket and snapped it up, it might be the style beloved of teenagers everywhere but I thought it would do for when Jon's working outside.

I didn't notice the label until I got it home. Maybe it's a bit too posh for crawling under vehicles? Not everyone donates dirty knickers and odd shoes, some people are amazingly generous.

Don't ask me what or why, Jon can't help himself when it comes to old skool music systems.

Kaliko leather jacket & LK Bennett sweater (40p each, yesterday's jumble sale finds), 1970s Bayeaux Tapestry print maxi skirt (£5, vintage shop in Walsall), 1960s Tapestry holdall (20p, jumble sale), 1960s felt and metal hat (£4, Birmingham Settlement Charity)
Must dash, we're meeting the gang in town in less than an hour. I'll try catch up with you between blogger meet-ups.

See you soon!

  4. Wow, stonking good finds there, Vix. Mum and I once found my Dad a Barbour flat cap at a jumble sale (matched his was jacket a treat), and we also came across a Barbour waxed coat in a charity shop, too. It was well worth the fiver it cost as it resold on ebay for at least 10 times as much.

I think it's blooming marvelous that you cater for the chaps as well, I'm trying to persuade Mark to do some modelling for the shop but I think I'll have to make him drunk before he'll yield to my pleas ;)
Speaking of Mark he's got a smoking jacket just like the one you've scored, I bought it at a boot sale a few years ago. He looks like James Bond in it :)
Loving the hat action you've got going on today.

  49. As ever, Vix, you are the Queen of the Jumble! I love all your finds, you did really well, even by your very high standards. The suitcases, ALL those shoes and hats, the tables, the tray, all the fabulous men's stuff (where has that unworn shirt with the collars been lurking all these years?) and the Barbour, what bargains!
I cannot imagine spending a ton of cash on something from LK Bennett in the first place, never mind chucking it away after a while - aren't people odd? Still, all the more goodies for the likes of us!
I LOVE that hat, and the whole outfit maintains your vibe and incorporates the modern pieces beautifully.
Vix. In a jumper. Now I've seen everything. Cashmere and silk, mmmm... Hope the night market was fun - LOVE!!!!! Xxxxxxx
