Vintage Hairstyling Challenge - Day Two (A Big Let Down)

Continuing with Kitty's vintage hair challenge and I'm afraid that I've failed miserably. Today's rules were:

1. The style must be 1970s
2. Hairspray may be used as required (I don't own any)
3. Brush and combs, as required
4. Four hair bands/ties
5. Two pairs of socks
6.  Twelve bobby pins (I could only find 8)

Attempting a 1970's hairdo was way beyond me and my limited ability, my hair is ridiculously thick and unruly. I now understand why my darling Mum insisted on me having a bowl haircut throughout my childhood. My attempts at Farrah Fawcett-Majors' flicks were a disaster and I couldn't even muster up 12 hairgrips so in the end I used the few I had to roll the front of my hair, using the designated bands to tie my plaits and wore the socks.
Check out Kitty's attempt on her blog, she looks amazing.

A good excuse for my failure is that my inability to concentrate on the task in hand as I'm beside myself with excitement. Following the Voucher Codes UK post I did last week I've only gone and won VIP tickets to London Fashion Week and Calamity Jem's coming as my guest. I'm so excited by the tremendous prize and even more so by finally meeting my fabulous friend, Jem.

1970's cheesecloth blouse (Courtesy of Jem), Orange suede shorts (Vintage Village @ Clothes Show Live £10), Stripey socks (Poundland), Wood Platform wedges (TopShop sale 4 years ago), Orange belt (Age Concern 50p)
Promise to try harder tomorrow, honest.

What on earth am I going to wear to London Fashion Week?

  2. What a fab win! Lucky you and jem! I hope you have a great time.

You should have curled your plaits up into buns for a Princess Leia look. It was the 70's albeit 'in a Galaxy, far, far away'.

  5. You have re-created one of the hairstyles *I* wore in the 70s, so I say this is a success. :)

  6. Great win. Yes, what WILL you wear? That IS the question. Bring on the photos!

As for today. Pippi Longstocking? I agree with you - 70s it isn't. Fabulous but not 70s.

And don't forget the mantra - blue and green should NEVER be seen. ;o)

  9. I think the attempt worked, it's charming! I don't own any hairspray either, I hate the stuff. Makes my hair stiff and crispy.

  16. I used to have long hair in the 70s and would occasionally wear it in braids so you're not that far off. I mostly went the Farrah Fawcett route, my cousin had a sexy shag and I had two friends who preferred the Dorothy Hammill wedge cut.

How exciting that you are going to London Fashion Week! I've been following along with Jazzabelle's Diary and she's got some amazing pics. Hope you and Calamity have a fun time and bring back pictures!
