Indian Summer

My moaning's paid off and we woke to glorious sunshine and warm temperatures this morning. Inspired by our Indian Summer I cracked open the battered leather suitcase I keep packed with my India travel gear and dug out my favourite vintage pink paisley maxi skirt by way of a celebration.

This skirt has been to India with me at least five times. It was 75p from the Cat's Protection League over three years ago and being polyester washes and dries within an hour, the perfect travel attire when trailing around dusty towns or strolling along a moonlit seashore. The scarf is vintage Liberty, living in a distinctly uncool town most people don't have a clue about high-end labels and this cost 75p from a charity shop in town a couple of weeks ago. The earrings were from the Auroville Ashram, just outside Pondicherry in India.

It's the first Thursday in weeks that it hasn't either rained or we've been away at a festival so needless to say we were at the regular Car Boot Sale bright and early. Here's some of my latest booty:

More to add to our collection.

Perfect for my retro dressing table when the spare bedroom's ready

This pair cost £2. Such a shame I don't smoke or wear powder.

This pretty pendant is huge, just how I like my jewellery

...and this one's ever bigger!

I also got a 1953 Film Show Annual with the most fabulous photographs of the film stars of the day in glorious technicolour.

The gorgeous Elizabeth Taylor in Ivanhoe

Voluptuous Virginia Mayo in She's Back On Broadway

Blonde Bombshell Glynis Johns

Hopefully this little number will be seen pounding the streets of India again before the end of the year.

  21. Beautiful skirt, realize how much I love paisley seeing it. The pendants, compact and ashtray are really cute finds. I found an Goodyear tire ashtray some months ago and could not resist it, and no one I know smoke any more!

  22. I love the flowing paisley skirt and the Liberty scarf was a super buy; the colours look great together. I like your vintage Avon buys too - they remind me of my mum's dressing table in the 70s. BTW - Liz Taylor looks absolutely stunning in that photo.

  26. I love the Vintage Avon perfumes, the packaging looks so immaculate and pure retro. I have a few old Avon cosmetics with their original packaging, I’m not sure how long ago they date back to, but they are splendid to look at, how packaging has changed!

And the Stratton compact, I have expressed my love and longing for one before.

You know as mean as it sounds I love it when charity folk don’t actually realise the true value of an item and ridiculously under price it, what an amazing scarf, such a find, I love the colours. xx

  27. That skirt is a gem!! Looking stunning, as always!

The clogs are a Euro 38 (Lucky for me, I wont have to guard them! he he), so they'd probably be a little tight on you - but i can definitely see you workin' them!

If they are too big for me, I'll be sure to let you know! Otherwise, I promise to do them justice during spring/summer :)

    xx Claire

  41. This may be one of my favorite outfits on you to date :) I always love seeing yoour goodies. You find the most awesome pendants. My single life is ending tomorrow and the house is tumbled ;)
    Oh well :)
We had a very cool day today, but I wore PJ's all day and cleared out closets (still)
I have way too much. I feel sinful, but as soon as I get rid of something, I end up looking for it right after. My shoes are out of controll. Yhe clogs are still here for you. will try to send them the first of next month - (payday). I need new tires and am going to my parents mid-month to help them with a yard sale. I will try to snap a bunch of photos and if I make some cash, yippee as well ;)
I am really hoping to bond with my dad.
You came up as spam today. Weird ?
    Have a great Sunday :)

  42. I always liked Avon's Bird of Paradise packaging. When I was a teen, I bought a big shapely turquoise bottle of the stuff when they did a reoffering. The scent was horrible on me -- way too spicy -- but at least the bottle and its exotic gilded floral cardboard package were pretty! Was fond of the Topaze packaging concept too, buttery yellows and faux topaz-colored gems.
